WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University women’s soccer maintained its perfect Ohio Athletic Conference record Saturday, routing visiting Heidelberg University 5-0 at Clements Field.
The win propels Otterbein to 10-4 overall and 5-0 against league opponents, dropping Heidelberg to 2-10-1 overall, 1-4 in league play.
Cardinal freshman Megan Mills put Otterbein on the board almost immediately, heading in a corner kick from Alex Ancona four minutes in.
Mills narrowly missed another goal one minute later when her shot hit the cross bar, but later redeemed herself at the 15:44 mark by beating the Heidelberg keeper on a breakway.
Freshman Megan McCabe gave the Cards a 3-0 lead before the opening half ended, taking a pass up the right side from classmate Jillian Strimbu and finishing lower left.
Freshman Mandi Robinson registered her first-career goal off a corner from captain Rachel Denz to open the second half, and junior Morgan Hendrickson capped the day’s scoring at the 53:27 mark.
Hendrickson’s goal was assisted by senior Molly Kroger, who now sits alone in second among OAC players in helpers.
Otterbein finished the day with advantages in shots, 19-13, and corner kicks, 10-3. Dana Strimbu and Melissa Zang split time to post the shutout for Otterbein while OAC saves leader goalkeeper Julie Cross posted ten stops in net for Heidelberg.
The Cardinals next host Wilmington College on Wednesday afternoon at Clements Field. Starting time is set for 4 p.m.
