Cardinals Cruise Past Muskies in Three Sets

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University volleyball, ranked No. 11 in the latest AVCA national poll, turned back Muskingum University in three sets Tuesday evening inside the Rike Center.

The Cardinals won by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 to improve to 15-6 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. Meanwhile, the loss drops Muskingum to 11-11 on the season, 1-3 in the league.

Otterbein jumped ahead early, opening a 20-14 lead in set one before coasting to win the opener. The Cardinals controlled set two and overcame a quick Muskie start to the third set to claim victory.

The Cards hit .413 for the match, tallying 10 service aces while limiting the Muskingm offense to a .202 hitting percentage.

Otterbein junior Liz Palmer, the OAC’s leader in hitting percentage, led the way offensively with 11 kill, and one error, on 16 total attempts.

Senior Kristen Bennett turned in nine kills while Michelle Gernert and Annie Juenger each tallied eight. Juenger also chipped in 10 digs.

Sophomore Tabatha Piper finished with 34 assists from the setter position while also contributing five kills. Junior libero Emily Caldwell had 16 digs defensively.

Muskingum was paced by Alexa Abram’s seven kills, with Hanna Rose and Lauren Tullis adding six a piece.

Otterbein steps away from conference play to finish out the week, traveling to the College of Wooster tri-match this Saturday.
