Cards Notch 2-0 Road Win at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cardinal women’s soccer team improved to 7-4 on the season with a 2-0 conference victory at John Carroll University Wednesday afternoon.

Otterbein University, now 11-0-2 against JCU in the last 13 meetings, improves to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. Meanwhile, the Blue Streaks drop to 5-5-1 overall, 0-1-1 against league opponents.

The Cardinals got on the board early, seeing freshman Megan Mills score her first-career goal in the 10th-minute for a 1-0 lead. Fellow freshman Megan McCabe was credited with the assist.

Otterbein extended its lead to 2-0 by the intermission, as freshman Jillian Strimbu rebounded a deflected Molly Kroger shot and scored with three minutes remaining in the opening half.

The Cardinals managed to fight off the John Carroll attack in the second half to preserve the win.

John Carroll outshot Otterbein 17-16 in the contest, but the Cards held a 7-3 edge in the corner-kick department.

Freshman goalkeeper Dana Strimbu tallied seven saves for Otterbein, while Haley McDonald tallied five in the JCU net. Full box score stats from the match will come later.

Otterbein stays on the road to finish out the week, traveling to Muskingum University Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. match.
