Women's Soccer Wins 5-0 at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Otterbein University women’s soccer upped its conference record to 3-0 Saturday afternoon, leaving Muskingum University with a 5-0 win.

The Cardinals move to 8-4 overall with the victory, giving head coach Brandon Koons his 100th victory over an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent. The loss takes the Muskies to 4-8 this season, 0-3 in the league.

Freshman Megan Mills put Otterbein ahead early, redirecting a header from classmate Megan McCabe in the 13th minute of action. McCabe and Melinda Stemen were credited with assists on the play.

Stemen followed with a score at the 21:49 mark, while classmate Alicia Contrascier got into the mix with her first career goal off a cross in the 34th minute.

The Cardinals added two more goals in the second half, seeing All-OAC midfielder Morgan Hendrickson find a loose ball in front of the net to score at the 74:02 mark, and Allie Schlemitz tack on another goal four minutes later.

Otterbein held a staggering 35-3 shot advantage, with 16 Cardinals shots going on goal. The Cards also took all 12 of the corner kicks in the match.

Sophomore Melissa Zang went the first 80 minutes in goal for the win, with junior defender Amanda Carlisle finishing off the final 10 in what was her first-ever appearance between the pipes. Neither was forced to make a save on the day.

Sara Poling, Elise Zimmerman, and Melissa Emmerich combined to finish with 11 saves in the Muskie net.

Otterbein next travels to Ada, Ohio Tuesday afternoon for an OAC matchup against 21st-ranked Ohio Northern University. Starting time is set for 4 p.m.
