Women's Hoops Tops Oberlin, Improves to 4-1

OBERLIN, Ohio – Otterbein University ran away late in the second half in earning a 64-46 non-conference victory at Oberlin College Thursday evening.

The Cardinals move to 4-1 on the season as a result, and will have the weekend off before hosting Marietta College on Wednesday evening, 7:30 p.m., to open Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Otterbein jumped out to a double-digit lead with 7:21 remaining in the first half, and later took a 34-23 advantage into halftime.

Oberlin (4-3) cut the Cardinal lead to six, at 39-33 and again at 41-35 by the 11:57 mark, but Otterbein used a Chelsea Cannon layup followed by a jumper from Hannah Day to quickly push the lead back to 10.

The Yeowomen closed to within seven temporarily, but Day sank a three-pointer on the other end as Otterbein ultimately cruised to the 18-point victory.

Day led the team with 17 points, adding six rebounds and tying for a game-high three steals.

Sophomore Madi Miller ended the night with a career-high 16 points off the bench, while senior Rachel Snedegar narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

Oberlin, which shot just .321 from the field compared to Otterbein’s .439, was led by Christina Marquette’s game-high 20 points.

The Cardinals held a 37-21 rebounding edge and also outscored the Yeowomen 18-7 in bench points.
