WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s team dropped a 21-7 contest with visiting Oberlin College Saturday at Clements Field, marking the first game in program history for the Cardinals.

Oberlin struck first with a goal just over four minutes in, but Otterbein answered quickly as sophomore Kayle Quinter registered the program’s first ever goal just 36 seconds later.

The Yeowomen led just 3-2 after 11 minutes of action, but eventually strung together  eight of the game’s next nine goals to put Otterbein an 11-3 halftime hole.

Oberlin extended the lead to 15-3 early in the second half, but two goals from Alyssa Johnson and another from Courtney Hilfinger cut the deficit to 15-6 with 12:56 left to play.

However, Oberlin weathered the mini flurry from Otterbein and rattled off six more goals en route to the victory.

Johnson paced Otterbein with four goals on the day, while Quinter, Hilfinger, and Victoria Blatt each tallied one.

Oberlin’s Kate Hanick led all scorers with six goals and one assist, while Bronwen Schumacher netted four goals.

Otterbein goalie Brittany Johnson came up with 13 saves in the loss, nine coming in the opening half of play. Madeleine O’Meara had four saves in goal for the visitors.

Oberlin held a 39-13 shot advantage for the contest, picking up 40 ground balls compared to Otterbein’s 22. The Yeowomen also won 19 of the 29 draw controls.

Oberlin converted 6 of 11 free-position shots while the Cardinals were 2 of 6 in the category.

The Cardinals now embark on a three-game road trip over spring break, beginning at North Central (Ill.) on Sunday afternoon. Starting time is slated for 2 p.m.
