Ohio Wesleyan Proves Too Strong for Otterbein

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Otterbein University women’s lacrosse fell to 1-4 on the season Wednesday afternoon, falling 20-8 at the hands of visiting Ohio Wesleyan University at Clements Field.

Otterbein freshman Victoria Blatt scored the game’s first goal, but Ohio Wesleyan (5-1) responded by rattling off 12 in a row over the next 15 minutes of action.

The Cardinals received back-to-back goals from Courtney Hilfinger and Rebecca Carter to close the gap slightly, but OWU quickly tallied three more en route to a 15-3 halftime advantage.

Blatt, Carter, and Hilfinger would all score at least once more in the second half, but the Bishops proved to be too strong as Otterbein suffered the 20-8 defeat.

Blatt led all scorers with four goals on the afternoon, with Hilfinger and Carter each netting two. Seven different Ohio Wesleyan players tallied multi-goal efforts in the victory.

Brittany Johnson finished with nine saves in the cage for Otterbein, while Lauren Figy and Jordan Bernstein combined to stop six shots for OWU.

Ohio Wesleyan converted 7 of 9 clear opportunities in the contest, and outshot Otterbein 30-19. The Cardinals struggled with clear attempts, going 0 for 13.

Otterbein returns to action on Monday, traveling to take on Kenyon College. Starting time in Gambier is slated for 4:30 p.m.
