DELAWARE, Ohio – Otterbein University men’s soccer was dealt a 3-0 road loss Wednesday evening, falling to 23rd-ranked and defending national champion Ohio Wesleyan University.
The loss drops Otterbein to 3-2 this season, while the win bumps the Battling Bishops to 3-1-1 overall.
Kit North put the hosts ahead early, taking a centered ball from the right end line and tipping it home in the sixth minute of action.
Paolo Bucci and Brian Schaefer each scored as the first half progressed to give OWU a 3-0 advantage entering intermission.
The Cardinals kept Wesleyan off the board in the second period, but were unable to generate any scores themselves en route to the defeat.
The Bishops held a 33-10 shot-advantage for the match, taking 13 of the game’s 15 corner kicks as well.
Paul Hendricks and Colin Beiemiller each stopped two shots while splitting time in goal for Ohio Wesleyan, while Otterbein keeper Kyle Ripma finished the match with a season-best nine saves. Ripma tallied a career-high 13 saves last season against OWU.
Otterbein next travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. this coming weekend to participate in the Colorado College Classic. The team opens against Fredonia State Saturday at 2 p.m. local time before taking on the host Tigers at 2:30 p.m. the following day.
