EARLHAM, Pa. – The Otterbein University women’s soccer team fell to 4-3 on the season Saturday afternoon, taking a tough 1-0 overtime loss at Earlham College.
Earlham, now 3-2 this season, controlled the majority of possession over the opening 45 minutes and finished the half with a 7-2 shot advantage.
The Cardinals turned the field around in the second half, taking control and beginning to look for a scoring opportunity.
Senior Jessica Yaney and sophomore Alex Ancona saw shots hit the cross bar, and freshman Jillian Strimbu roped a shot from 20 yards away, only to see Earlham goalkeeper Ashley Johnson making a diving save.
Otterbein had a chance in the final minute of regulation with a corner attempt, but the ball deflected off the cross bar and headed out of bounds.
Earlham’s Ryder Comstock notched the decisive goal less than two minutes into the overtime session, connecting on a header from a Quaker corner kick.
The Cardinals outshot the Quakers 8-4 in the second half, but still lost the overall battle 13-10. Otterbein took six of the eight corner kicks in the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Zang finished with six saves for the Cards, while Johnson came up with four in net for Earlham.
Otterbein returns to action Tuesday evening, traveling to Delaware for a non-conference outing against Ohio Wesleyan University. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
