DELAWARE, Ohio – The Cardinal women’s soccer team got itself back into the win column Tuesday evening, getting a pair of goals from sophomore Melinda Stemen and leaving Ohio Wesleyan University with a 2-1 victory.
Otterbein moves to 5-3 on the season with the win, dropping the Bishops to 2-4-1 in the process.
The Cardinals, eager to erase frustrating back-to-back losses from the past week, got on the board almost immediately as Stemen buried a shot from the right side just 89 seconds in.
The Cards entered halftime with the 1-0 lead, but Ohio Wesleyan evened the match shortly after the break with a goal from Jessie Huschart in the 64th minute.
Stemen struck again as the match entered the final stages, eluding a defender at the top of the box and scoring upper right with 14:28 remaining on the game clock. The scores were just the second and third of her career.
The Otterbein defense held strong the remainder of the way to help secure the victory.
The Cards held advantages of 24-14 on shots and 7-0 on corner kicks, with freshman goalkeeper Dana Strimbu finishing with a season-high eight saves. OWU keeper Alexandria Cramner had six saves of her own in the losing effort.
Otterbein stays at home to finish out the week, hosting Transylvania University (Ky.) Saturday at 1 p.m.
