Box Score

BEREA, Ohio – Otterbein University men’s basketball dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) road contest Saturday afternoon, leaving Baldwin Wallace University with a 74-60 loss.

The Cardinals, now 7-12 overall and 4-8 in conference play, return home to host Ohio Northern University Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Freshman Jake Bischoff opened with consecutive three-pointers to start the Otterbein scoring, but Baldwin Wallace (14-5, 9-3 OAC) proceeded to embark on a 19-2 run spanning the next seven minutes to seize a 22-8 advantage.

The Cards began to battle back, closing to within 32-30 after a layup from Max Van Meter before eventually heading into halftime down 36-31.

Otterbein trailed 38-35 two minutes into the second half, but BW put together a 13-2 run to open a 51-37 lead with 12:26 to go.

The Cards brought the deficit down to 57-50 as the game clock ticked under 5:00, but they would get no closer in suffering the defeat.

Max Van Meter and Bischoff paced Otterbein offensively, tallying 16 and 15 points, respectively. Zach Bakenhaster totaled seven points and five caroms while senior John Finnegan scored a career-high nine.

Kyle Payne and Grant Fairhurst combined to score 40 points for the hosts, which made 18 of 23 at the line to help offset an 8 of 27 effort from long range.

The Cards shot .472 for the game, but committed 19 turnovers compared to BW’s nine. The Jackets registered 18 of their points off Cardinal giveaways.

Otterbein will be looking for a season sweep of Ohio Northern Wednesday night, having already defeated the Polar Bears, 79-70, on Dec. 18 in Ada, Ohio.
