Cards Strike Early, Cruise to 3-0 Win Over Muskingum

Box Score
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University women's soccer bumped its season record to 7-4-1 Saturday afternoon, defeating Muskingum University, 3-1, in conference play at Clements Field.

The Cardinals now sit 2-1 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), dropping the Muskies to 7-4-2 overall (0-3 OAC) in the process. Otterbein will return to action Wednesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. home match against Ohio Northern University.

Otterbein took little time getting on the board, as sophomore Megan McCabe scored on the last of three Cardinal shots in a clustered box just 8:03 into the contest.

McCabe helped double the Cardinal advantage in the 15th minute, sending a cross into the box that found the foot of classmate Jillian Strimbu. The team's leading scorer proceeded to hit a shot past the Muskingum keeper for her sixth goal of the fall.

Otterbein took the 2-0 lead into intermission, and eventually pushed the margin to 3-0 at the 71:59 mark when Megan Gordon put a centered pass into the box from the right baseline and saw Morgan Hendrickson finish it home.

Muskingum goalkeeper Melissa Emmerich made three stops in 75 minutes before giving way to Elise Zimmerman. Otterbein freshman Andrea Pohlman, making her first career start in place of Dana Strimbu (rest), tallied two saves over the initial 45 minutes of action.

The Cardinals held a 33-5 shot advantage and took all 17 of the corner kicks seen in the match.
