Strimbu Strikes Twice in Cardinal Victory at Heidelberg

Box Score
TIFFIN, Ohio – Otterbein University women's soccer got itself back into the win column Saturday afternoon, walking away with a 3-1 conference win at Heidelberg University.

The Cardinals move to 8-5-1 overall with the result and also improve to 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Heidelberg falls to 2-12-1 with the loss, 1-4 against league foes.

Otterbein peppered the Student Prince defense with shots from the get-go, eventually taking the lead on a goal from junior Lindy Stemen at the 33:29 mark. Stemen took a through ball from freshman Polly Sellers and beat Heidelberg keeper Molly Schriber for her first score of the season.

The Cards held a 15-2 shot advantage in the first half, including a 10-1 edge on goal.

Heidelberg managed to tie the match early in the second half, however, watching a long shot from Anna DeAngelis soar over Cardinal goalkeeper Dana Strimbu's head and into the right upper 90.

An Otterbein shot from Jill Knox hit the post moments later, and the Cardinals continued to fire shots until sophomore Jillian Strimbu scored her seventh goal of the season in the 65th minute by knocking in a shot in front of the net. Junior Alex Ancona was credited with the assist.

Strimbu wasn't done as she helped give Otterbein some breathing room at 3-1 by scoring another goal less than 12 minutes later, with Sellers picking up her second helper of the contest on the play. The Cards would not look back in securing the win.

Otterbein held a 31-3 shot advantage throughout the match and took all eight corner kicks as well.

The team stays on the road to begin next week's action, traveling to Wilmington College Tuesday for a 7 p.m. evening matchup.
