Pfeil and Pulliam Guide Cards to 4-3 Victory at Wilmington

Box Score
WILMINGTON, Ohio – Otterbein University men's soccer tallied a key Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory Wednesday evening with a 4-3 triumph at Wilmington College.

The much-needed win bumps the Cardinals to 7-8 on the season and 2-4 within league play. The Quakers, meanwhile, fall to 5-11-1 overall and 2-4 against league opponents.

Wilmington got on the board first with a goal from Markus Tornberg in the 13th minute of play. Otterbein drew even at the 26:15 mark with Jared Pulliam's 11th goal of the season, and the match later headed to halftime locked in the 1-1 tie.

Otterbein freshman Ross Pfeil put the Cards ahead 2-1 less than seven minutes into the second half, and scored his second goal of the contest 14 minutes later by taking an incoming pass and heading it home.

Drew Fields brought the hosts to within 3-2 after his goal in the 71st minute, and Fields nearly evened the match moments later when his shot hit the post.

Pulliam gave Otterbein some breathing room at the 87:24, getting a pass from Pfeil and finishing strong. The Quakers capped the scoring with an Ethan Zimpfer goal in the final minute, but the Cardinal offensive output would be enough to secure the win.

Wilmington held a 23-15 shot advantage throughout the match, taking eight of the nine corner kicks awarded. Kyle Ripma had seven saves in the Otterbein goal while Anton Niklasson managed three for the Quakers.

Otterbein finishes out the week Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of Mount Union at 3:30 p.m. Ripma and fellow classmates Adam Tackett, Evan Fallon, Jake Keller, Justin Cox and Kiley Gessner will be recognized prior to starting time as part of Senior Day.
