Cardinals Fall in Conference Opener at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – Otterbein University men's soccer dropped its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener Saturday night, falling 3-0 on the road at Baldwin Wallace University.

The Cardinals, moving to 5-5 on the season with the loss, will return home and host John Carroll University Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, improve themselves to 3-6-3 overall with the victory.

Ben Deighton put BW on the board in the 12th minute with a penalty-kick goal, marking the third time in as many outings that the Cardinals have provided their opponent with a PK opportunity.

The Jackets took the 1-0 lead into halftime, and extended the margin to 2-0 at the 52:19 mark on Deighton's second goal of the match. BW added a third goal, coming from Michael Brennan, just three minutes later en route to the win.

Baldwin Wallace finished with an 18-7 shot advantage, taking 17 corner kicks compared to just five for Otterbein. Kyle Ripma made seven saves in the Cardinal net and counterpart Tyler Beaton came up with two for the home side.

Otterbein will stay at home after hosting JCU on Wednesday, playing Muskingum University Saturday afternoon as part of a men's and women's doubleheader.
