BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's soccer team suffered a tough defeat Saturday afternoon, opening Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a 1-0 loss at Baldwin Wallace University.
The Cardinals, now 5-4-1 overall, will return home and host John Carroll University Tuesday at 4 p.m. The victory marks the seventh-straight for BW, which moves to 10-1 on the season and 1-0 in the league.
Both teams played through a scoreless first half, and the match remained locked until Baldwin Wallace's Cheryl Bell scored her third goal of the season, heading in a ball off a cross from the right win at the 77:45 mark. Otterbein was unable to draw even the remainder of the way.
The Yellow Jackets finished with an 11-9 advantage on shots, with Otterbein posting a slim 6-5 edge on corner kicks.
Dana Strimbu had two saves in goal for the Cardinals while Emily Tallmadge finished with five for the hosts.
Following Tuesday's match with John Carroll, the Cardinals will remain at home to play Muskingum University Saturday afternoon as part of a men's and women's doubleheader.
