Men's Hoops Suffers Road Loss at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Cardinal men's basketball team suffered a road loss within Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon, falling 93-71 at the University of Mount Union.

Otterbein University drops to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 against league schools with the loss, while the Purple Raiders improve themselves to 5-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the OAC.

Mount Union opened strong on its home floor, seizing a 26-8 lead midway through the first half before ultimately taking a 48-32 advantage into intermission.

The Cardinals gathered themselves at the break and came out strong in the second, opening the period on a 10-0 run to cut the margin down to six points.

Otterbein trailed by just ten, at 67-57, with 9:41 to play in the contest, but a 13-0 run by Mount Union would blow the game open and help the hosts take control for good.

Sophomore Jake Bischoff and freshman Jake Phillis led the way offensively for Otterbein, each scoring a game-high 20 points on a combined 13 of 25 shooting output.

Freshman Antonio Bisutti finished with a season-high 12 points while classmate Billy Lucien contributed eight points and seven boards.

Five different players scored in double figures for the Purple Raiders, led by 15 from both Cody Dillon and Kyle Scelza.

Otterbein shot 40 percent from the field compared to Mount Union's 48 percent day.

The Raiders launched a staggering 36 shots from behind the arc, making 14 in the process. Otterbein buried 9 of 20 three-pointers but was doubled up in bench points (16-8) and second-chance scoring (16-8).

The Cardinals will return to action Wednesday evening with a 7:30 p.m. home contest with Ohio Northern University.
