WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University women’s lacrosse bounced back from its triple-overtime defeat on Wednesday afternoon, toppling visiting Mount St. Joseph College, 13-8, at Clements Field.

The win pushes Otterbein to 5-4 on the season, and the Cards will return to action Friday with a 5 p.m. home game against Augustana College (Ill.).

Otterbein scored the first three goals of the game, but Mount St. Joseph (5-4) stayed close and trailed just 6-4 after a score at the 7:15 mark of the first half.

The Cardinals would get goals from Courtney Hilfinger and Victoria Blatt before the half to take an 8-4 edge at the break.

Otterbein, behind the strong draw-control play of Kayle Quinter, remained in control after halftime in pushing the lead to 12-5 midway through the second period. The Lions tallied three of the game’s final four goals, but the Otterbein lead would be too much.

Blatt led all scorers with a game-high five goals on 11 shots. Hilfinger added three scores, all on free-position attempts, while Morgan Hunsaker and Alyssa Johnson each had two.

Quinter came up with an impressive seven draw control, allowing the Cards to hold a possession advantage. She also tallied game-highs with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Otterbein goalie Karen Brady made five saves in the net while her counterpart, Paige Apel, finished with 14 saves in goal for the Lions.

The Cardinals outshot Mount St. Joseph 40-16 on the day and held a 29-17 advantage in ground balls.
