WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women’s lacrosse team saw Augustana College (Ill.) run away late Friday afternoon in suffering a 15-6 loss at Clements Field.
The Cardinals, now 5-5 on the season, will hit the road for their next four games beginning with a 6 p.m. contest next Wednesday at Saint Vincent College.
Otterbein led, 2-1, early on after a pair of unassisted goals from Shannon Back and Courtney Hilfinger, but Augustana (9-3) fought back to eventually take a 4-3 lead entering halftime.
The scoring picked up in the second half, with the Vikings hanging on to a 7-5 lead midway through the period.
The score remained the same as the game clock ticked under nine minutes, but Augustana would catch fire and pull away after eight unanswered goals in a six-minute span.
Augustana held a 32-20 shot advantage for the game and won 17 of the 23 draw controls. The Vikings were 7 of 11 on clear attempts while Otterbein struggled in the category, going just 11 of 27.
Goalie Karen Brady finished with 12 saves for Otterbein while Jenna Hoffman had eight of Augustana’s 10 saves in goals during the second half.
Six different Cardinals scored in the game while Hilary Kargl tallied a game-high five scores for the visitors.
