Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University suffered a 15-5 defeat at the hands of the University of Mount Union Sunday afternoon, falling to 6-7 on the season as a result.
Otterbein tallied the first goal of the game after seven minutes of scoreless play, but Mount Union (11-1) went on a 9-2 run the remainder of the half to take a six-goal halftime lead.
Cardinal freshman Annie Kelly started the scoring in the second frame with a goal at the 25:23 mark, but the Raiders would use six unanswered goals to open a sizeable advantage and not look back.
Mount held a 23-9 edge on shots throughout the game, picking up 29 ground balls compared to Otterbein’s 16. The Raiders successfully cleared the ball 10 out of 12 times while Otterbein was just 9 for 25 on clear attempts.
Kelly and Victoria Blatt each scored twice in the game for Otterbein while Alyssa Johnson registered the other Cardinals’ score.
Shawney Hamilton came off the Mount Union bench to score four times, all in the first half, while teammate Susie Kraus also netted four.
Otterbein will return to action Thursday with a 5 p.m. home game against Wilmington College.
