Cardinals Get Back on Track at Ohio Wesleyan

Box Score
DELAWARE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's soccer team got back into the win column Wednesday evening, playing to a 3-0 non-conference win at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Cardinals, controlling the match throughout, move to 2-3 on the season and snap a rare three-game skid with the victory. The team finishes out the week at Clements Field in its home opener, hosting Manchester University Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Otterbein wasted little time getting back on track, getting a goal from sophomore Jillian Strimbu seven minutes in on a free kick from 25 yards out.

Ohio Wesleyan nearly evened the score in the 37th minute, but a Bishop shot was tipped over the crossbar by Otterbein goalkeeper Dana Strimbu.

The Cards went into intermission with the slim 1-0 advantage, but freshman Polly Sellers doubled the lead in the 62nd minute by turning the corner down in the left offensive end and blasting a shot home.

Freshman Madison Burchfield capped the scoring at the 81:20 mark with her first-career goal, taking a pass from Strimbu towards the right side of the box and finishing strong.

Otterbein held a 25-10 shot advantage on the night, taking an impressive 15 corner kicks compared to just four for the Bishops.

Dana Strimbu made a season-high seven saves over the first 77 minutes in goal before freshman Andrea Pohlman came on in relief to help complete the shutout.
