WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The 13th-ranked Otterbein University volleyball team turned back visiting Kenyon College in four sets Wednesday, winning 25-17, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20.
The Cardinals, improving to 14-4 on the season with the win, return to the court tomorrow night with a 7 p.m. match against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Otterbein eased to victories in the opening two sets, but Kenyon hung around by taking the third stanza and forcing a fourth frame.
Otterbein put the match away in the fourth, opening a 20-11 advantage before gliding to the win.
Junior setter Tabatha Piper handed out 39 assists, and nearly broke Otterbein's single-match record for highest hitting percentage by tallying 11 kills and no errors on 15 attempts. The .733 percentage falls just shy of Jessie Boyer's .765 mark set back in 2002 against Heidelberg.
Juniors Kendel Kellogg and Kim Barker combined for 20 kills in the match, while Maddy Shelley (7), Carly Culbertson (6), and Liz Palmer all contributed nicely on the offensive side as well.
Sierra DeLeon blasted a match-best 17 kills for Kenyon, which also got 10 kills from Kaitlyn Powers and 35 assists from setter Hannah Shank.
