BEREA, Ohio – The Cardinal men's basketball team dropped a road matchup in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon, falling 90-67 at Baldwin Wallace University in Ursprung Gymnasium.
Otterbein University falls to 2-10 this season and 1-4 against league opponents with the loss, watching the Yellow Jackets move to 7-5 overall and 3-2 against the OAC in the process.
The contest was tied 12-12 in the early going before the Yellow Jackets scored eight quick points to open a 20-12 advantage. Otterbein stayed close and trailed just 25-21 with 5:20 to go before the break, but Baldwin Wallace finished the period on a 19-4 run to open a 44-25 margin entering halftime.
The Cardinals posted the first six points of the second half, but BW was able to bump the lead back to 20 by the midway point of the frame. Refusing to go away quietly, Otterbein sliced the deficit back down to 13 over the next few minutes before ultimately seeing the hosts pull away for good.
Sophomore Jake Bischoff scored 14 to lead four Cardinals in double figures. Senior Jon Juergens tallied 13 points while freshmen Jake Phillis and Grant Fenner each chipped in 10.
Kevin Krakowiak poured in a game-high 26 to lead the Jackets, with Matt Dennis contributing 17 points on a perfect 8 of 8 shooting. BW shot .515 from the field and out-rebounded Otterbein 43-27.
Otterbein will have the middle of the week off before hosting crosstown-rival Capital University next Saturday evening, 7:30 p.m., as part of a men's and women's doubleheader. The women's contest is scheduled to kick off the action at 5:30 p.m.
