Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Otterbein University football team turned back crosstown rival Capital University, 50-28, Saturday evening in Memorial Stadium on the Westerville campus.

The Cardinals broke open the game in which they led, 27-21, at the half, with 23 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Capital for the third straight season. Otterbein has won six of the last eight meetings.

With the win, Otterbein improved to 3-2 overall and maintained its share of third place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) at 3-1. The Cardinals are scheduled to play their next two games on the road.

The game looked early that it would turn into a shootout—with Capital scoring touchdowns on three of its first five possessions and Otterbein ringing up four TD's on its first five possessions.

Capital took the game's opening kickoff and struck first, covering 78 yards in 10 plays, ending in a 6-yard touchdown run from running back Brent Walton.

The Cardinals were forced to punt on their first possession before the offense began to kick into gear. Otterbein scored touchdowns on its next four series and led, 27-21, with 2:40 to play in the second quarter.

Otterbein running back Drew Ervin got the ball rolling with a 17-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Brick Davis to tie the game at 7-7 with 3:02 to play in the first quarter, and running back Reid Hutchison put the Cards up, 14-7, with a 2-yard run with 13:51 to go in the second quarter. Otterbein added touchdown runs of 24 yards from slot receiver Cole Benner and 1 yard from quarterback Brick Davis.

Quarterback Nick Iske kept Capital in the game with touchdown runs of 4 and 2 yards in the second quarter.

The second half was all Otterbein.

Hutchison, who rushed for a career-high 149 yards in the game, scored on a 61-yard touchdown run, and Davis scored his second touchdown of the game, a 2-yard run, and Otterbein led, 41-21, with 26 seconds to play in the third period.

Place-kicker Quenton Miller, a 37-yard field goal, and running back John Pyles, an 11-yard touchdown run, closed out the scoring for the Cardinals.

Otterbein churned out a season-high 544 yards of total offense, rushing for 256 yards and passing for 288.

Davis threw for a career-high 288 yards on 17-of-34 passing. He threw one touchdown and no interceptions. The quarterback rushed for 25 yards and two TD's on eight carries.

Slot receiver Ryan Thombs led the Cards with five receptions for 72 yards, both career highs. Ervin, coming out of the backfield, caught four balls for 35 yards and one touchdown.

Hutchison, 149 yards and two TD's on seven carries, and Ervin, 43 yards on 11 carries, led the ground attack for Otterbein.

Inside linebackers Austin Jones and Preston Pearson turned in career performances in the victory. Jones led Otterbein with 18 tackles. Pearson made 13 stops.

The Cardinal defense made three interceptions in the game. Safety Ryan Moore, cornerback Jordan Shell, and backup cornerback Jordan Keaton each made a pick. Keaton returned his 54 yards, which set up Otterbein's last score of the game.

Otterbein is scheduled to travel to Muskingum University Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. It will be homecoming in New Concord.
