Volleyball Tops Host Transylvania, Falls to Illinois Wesleyan in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Cardinal women's volleyball team tallied a split Saturday afternoon, moving to 11-11 on the season after a visit to the Transylvania University tri-match.

Otterbein University took down the host Pioneers to begin the action, winning in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-18.
The Cardinals pulled out a close second set to take control of the match, seeing ties at 12, 13, 14 and 15 before a quick 8-2 scoring spurt help create separation.

Otterbein hit .250 for the match, including a blistering .390 in the opening set, while limiting Transy to .070 throughout the contest. Seniors Kim Barker and Kendel Kellogg combined for 19 kills offensively while three others had at least six.

The Tan and Cardinal took another early lead after a 25-18 first-set win against Illinois Wesleyan University, but unfortunately dropped the remaining three games by scores of 19-25, 18-25, 23-25.

Otterbein managed to hit just .157 in the match while Illinois Wesleyan gave a .226 effort. Barker and freshman Megan Volosin combined for 15 kills, eight block assists and six digs.

Otterbein will be back in action Wednesday evening, returning to Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 7 p.m. home match with Ohio Northern University.
