Box Score BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's soccer team took over sole possession of first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Saturday evening, tallying a 2-0 road victory at Baldwin Wallace University.
The Cardinals, running their unbeaten streak to 11 matches, now sits 10-2-4 on the season and a solid 6-0-1 within league play. The Yellow Jackets (9-7-2, 5-1-1 OAC) now remain alone in second place after the loss, one point ahead of Ohio Northern University.
Baldwin Wallace had a good look early on in the fourth minute, but an Alex Elliot shot hit hit the corssbar and stayed out. Otterbein took the lead midway through the opening half, getting Melinda Stemen's fourth goal of the season in the 27th minute and never looking back.
Both sides played in a tight, physical match throughout, with Otterbein gaining a player advantage in the 68th minute after BW's Kelly Gough received her second yellow card and exited the match.
The Cards would eventually double the margin, adding an insurance goal courtesy of Jillian Strimbu's 12th score of the year in the 75th minute. She now needs just two more scores to match the program's single-season record of 14, set by Melanie Evans back in 1988.
Baldwin Wallace finished with a slim 10-9 shot advantage and both sides took four corner kicks. Otterbein keeper Dana Strimbu was forced to make just one save behind a stingy Cardinal defense, while Yellow Jacket junior Emily Tallmadge made four on the opposite end of the field after replacing Gabrielle Bodo in the 24th minute.
Otterbein will host a pair of home matches next week to conclude the regular season, playing Marietta College (1-13-3) on Wednesday before taking on the University Mount Union next Saturday.
