Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Cardinal volleyball team got itself back into the win column Thursday evening, hanging on for a five-set road victory at NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Otterbein University, improving to an even 10-10 on the season with the triumph, will finish out the week at the Transylvania University tri-match against Illinois Wesleyan and the host Pioneers.
The Cardinals took down Mount Vernon by scores of 25-19, 27-25, 16-25, 22-25 and 15-7, letting the Cougars erase a 2-0 deficit before running away with the fifth and decisive frame.
Senior Kendel Kellogg turned in a double-double with a team-high 17 kills to go along with 10 digs. Junior Kasey White set a new career-best with 15 while Kim Barker and Marie Thornton each contributed 11. Otterbein hit .201 for the match compared to a .120 output for the hosts.
Four players tallied double-digit digs for the Cardinals, led by a new career-high of 25 from junior Gracie Staten, who was celebrating her 21st birthday. Libero Evelyn Carus had 20 and sophomore Brenna McNally had a season-best 12.
Setters Kayla Radekin and Lauren Blumberg combine to hand out 56 assists for the Tan and Cardinal, which overcame 17 service errors to just one for the Cougars.
Mount Vernon, falling to 14-7 on the year with the loss, got match highs of 20 kills from Annelise Rohrer and 38 digs courtesy of Marlowe Beatty.
