WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University men's basketball dropped an 88-67 contest with visiting Wilmington College Wednesday night in the Rike Center, falling to 4-18 overall and 3-12 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.
Wilmington, meanwhile, improves itself to 14-7 on the season and 11-4 against league opponents.
Otterbein opened strong, taking an 18-11 lead to force a Wilmington timeout by the 12:12 mark after a Marc McCuen layup off an inbounds pass under the basket.
The Quakers eventually settled in, tying the game at 27-27 before a 15-2 run to end the half gave them a 44-31 halftime advantage.
Wilmington extended the lead early in the second half, getting the margin to 20 less than four minutes in and never looking back.
The Cardinals saw good minutes down the stretch from freshman Bryan Mackenzie, who finished the game with an impressive 11 points in just eight minutes of play.
Jake Bischoff and Jake Phillis combined to score 29 points for Otterbein while Malcolm Heard II, an OAC Player of the Year candidate, posted 26 points and eight rebounds on the visitors' side.
The Quakers shot 52.5 percent from the field and posted a 48-28 edge on points in the paint.
Otterbein finishes the week on the road, traveling across town to play rival Capital University Saturday afternoon as part of a men's and women's doubleheader.
