Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's lacrosse team picked up another victory Saturday afternoon, running their record to 10-3 with a 9-7 triumph over visiting cross-town Capital University.
Otterbein University, now 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, will host a non-league matchup with Defiance College Monday at 3 p.m. before resuming conference play at Wilmington College come Wednesday.
The Cardinals scored two goals late in the first half for a 5-4 halftime lead, and carried the run over to the second half for what would ultimately be a 6-0 scoring spurt. Capital attempted a late rally, scoring three times in the final three minutes of action before the final horn sounded.
Otterbein hung on down the stretch despite playing without the services of leading-scorer Tory Blatt, who was sent off with a red card at the 10:26 mark.
Freshman Maddy Blackburn led the Cardinal offensively, going a perfect 3 for 3 on free-position attempts and also winning three draw controls. Sophomore Morgan Hunsaker scored two times while classmate Annie Kelly was her usual self with one goal, three assists, nine ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Capital dominated the draw control early on before Otterbein caught up to eventually win 11 of 18 for the entire contest. Otterbein posted a 26-14 shot advantage but Crusader goalie Maddie Wilson kept her team close by making 10 saves.
Prior to the contest, Kayle Quinter, Meg Burless, Julia Daggett and Rachel Snedegar were recognized as part of Senior Day.
