Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team fell short in its quest for an Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season championship Saturday afternoon, suffering a 17-5 defeat at the University of Mount Union.
The Cardinals, falling to 12-4 on the season and 4-1 in OAC play with the loss, will assume the No. 3 seed for next week's four-team conference tournament. Otterbein, losing out to Baldwin Wallace on a tie-breaker scenario, will travel and play the Yellow Jackets come Wednesday.
Otterbein trailed just 3-2 after ten minutes of action at Mount, but the Purple Raiders (14-2, 4-1 OAC) found a groove with seven unanswered goals to seize a 10-2 advantage. A goal from freshman Maddy Blackburn temporarily halted the Mount Union run, but the hosts would six-straight goals to begin the second half and put the game away for good.
Otterbein, playing without goalies Karen Brady (injury) and Rachel Snedegar (personal obligation), were forced to use senior defender Julia Daggett in the cage throughout. Daggett was playing in her first game this season after returning from a leg injury.
Sophomore Annie Kelly scored two goals for the Cardinals while four different players netted three goals each for the host Raiders. Mount Union held a 28-9 shot advantage and won 17 of 22 draw controls.
