Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer team was dealt a tough non-conference loss Wednesday evening , allowing two-second half goals to Denison over at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
Otterbein, now 1-2-2 on the season, will have the upcoming weekend off before hosting Ohio Wesleyan University in its home opener next Wednesday, 5 p.m. The match will be played at Clements Field as Memorial Stadium goes through its final tune-ups.
The Cards played to a scoreless first half against the Big Red, getting an early scoring look from senior Melinda Stemen and another from sophomore Erica Meier that were both saved by Denison keeper Jenny Herold.
Otterbein nearly score to begin the second half, watching a shot from midfielder Jillian Strimbu hit the crossbar before a follow-up attempt from Alivi Shivley sailed high.
Denison put some pressure on the Cardinal defense from there, forcing goalkeeper Dana Strimbu to make three-straight saves before an eventual shot from Gen Eng-Surowiec at the 57:35 mark, struck from 25 yards out, made its way over a leaping Strimbu and into the net.
Otterbein saw a few chances at an equalizing score moving forward, but committed a costly turnover just outside the box in the 77
th minute that allowed Denison's Meg Wozniak to send a shot over Dana Strimbu from 30 yards out and double the advantage.
The Big Red finished with a slight 16-13 shot advantage while Otterbein attempted two more corner kicks at 6-4. Dana Strimbu finished with five saves in the Cardinal net and Herold posted three on the opposite end.
