Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's volleyball team picked up a non-conference victory Thursday evening, winning a four-set match with the Big Red of Denison University inside the Rike Center.
The Cardinals, their overall record to 6-7, will be back in action Saturday afternoon with a pair of contests at the Kenyon College tri-match.
Otterbein pulled out a close first set, 25-23, before pulling away in game two behind the hot serving of freshman Megan Volosin. The two sides were locked at 13-13 before the Cards rattled off eight-consecutive points, including three service aces from Volosin, and never looked back en route to a 25-15 win.
The Cardinals appeared to be in line for a straight-set victory late in the third frame, holding leads of 23-18 and 24-22. However, Denison (5-6) found a way to secure three-straight points and ultimately stay alive with a 29-27 win.
Otterbein shut the door in what was a very close fourth set, seeing ties down the stretch at 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 before emerging with a 30-28 edge.
Volosin blasted home the final point for Otterbein, finishing with a team-high 15 kills on the night and hitting .308. The Youngstown native also finished with 15 digs and five service aces.
Senior Kim Barker totaled 13 kills while classmate Kendel Kellog hit .330, ripping off 12 points on 36 attempts and committing no errors.
Setters Kayla Radekin and Lauren Blumberg each handed out 26 assists while libero Evelyn Carus had 23 digs for the defense. The Cardinals, having shown some inconsistency at the service line in recent outings, committed just six errors over the four sets and also finished with nine team blocks.
