Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Cardinal women's soccer team posted a dramatic come-from-behind win Saturday afternoon on the road, scoring two late goals to escape with a 2-1 triumph at Manchester University.
Otterbein University, moving to 2-2-3 on the season as a result, fell behind 1-0 in the 74th minute before a pair of late goals from juniors Megan McCabe and Jillian Strimbu lifted the Cards to victory.
The Cardinals had a ton of chances throughout the first half, only out-shooting Manchester 4-1 but forcing Spartan goalkeeper Emily Willmann to make some good saves.
Manchester (2-5) took the temporary lead with just over 16 minutes to play on a goal from Jenny Pudlo, and clung to the lead as the game clocked ticked under 10 minutes.
Otterbein refused to quit, getting the equalizing goal on a solo effort from McCabe after she dribbled in from 30 yards out and snuck a shot in at the 81:44 mark. Strimbu answered with the game-winner almost immediately after, ripping a free kick into the upper 90 at the beginning of the 83rd minute to propel the Tan and Cardinal ahead for good.
"It was a tough game today," head coach Brandon Koons said. "Manchester held us off for a long time and then got a big score with 15 minutes to go. I think it showed a lot of character for our girls to fight back and win. We deserved the goals from the work we were doing, and I'm just glad they came."
Otterbein nearly doubled up the hosts in total shots at 15-8 while each team attempted five corner kicks. Dana Strimbu stopped three shots in the Otterbein net and Willmann had eight on the opposite end.
The Cards will next return home and host Kenyon College Wednesday evening, playing their first contest in the newly renovated Memorial Stadium. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
