Cardinals Fall to Undefeated Marietta in the Rike Center

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal men's basketball team fought hard against undefeated and seventh-ranked Marietta College Saturday evening, ultimately falling by a score of 105-66 inside a crowded Rike Center.

Otterbein, falling to 3-12 overall and 2-6 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) as a result, will stay at home and resume action Wednesday night against Wilmington College.

Marietta, improving to a perfect 15-0 on the season and 8-0 against the league, opened the game on an 11-2 run before pushing the margin to 25-10 midway through the first half. The Pioneers moved advantage to as many as 23 in the opening period, but closed the frame on an 11-3 spurt to get the deficit down to 15 entering the break.

The Cardinals trailed by only 13 a few minutes into the second half, but a hard-nosed Marietta group widened its cushion en route to posting its highest-scoring game of the year.

Sophomore Bryan Mackenzie led four Otterbein players in double figures, tying for a game-high 15 on 6-of-8 shooting. Chase Moyer finished with 14 while Matt Hughes and Jake Phillis had 13 and 12, respectively.

Andy Dollman tallied 15 points to pace four Marietta players in double digits. Post players Eddy Grenert and Garrett Stephenson each scored 14.

Otterbein shot a comparable 45 percent for the game to the Pioneers' even 50 percent, but were out-rebounded 43-25 and committed 18 turnovers, more than twice as many as Marietta's seven. Marietta also finished with a commanding 48-7 edge in bench scoring.
