Men's Basketball Falls 70-54 at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Cardinal men's basketball team dropped a road outing during Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action Saturday afternoon, coming up short in a 70-54 loss at Muskingum University.

Muskingum (6-13, 3-9 OAC) opened a 17-7 lead to begin the game, but Otterbein stormed back with a 17-6 run over the next five and a half minutes to grab a 24-23 advantage. Both sides traded buckets over the remainder of the half before the Muskies entered the break with narrow 37-36 edge.

The Cardinals (3-16, 2-10 OAC) scored six of the first seven points in the second half, but Muskingum regrouped with an 8-0 run to jump ahead, 46-42, as the game clock approached 13:00 to play.

Otterbein scored the next four points to tie the contest with 11:20 to go, but the Muskies would finish the game on a 24-8 run as they pulled away down the stretch.

Matt Hughes and Jake Phillis led the Cardinals with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Otterbein shot just 39 percent for the game compared to Muskingum's 48-percent output.

Logan Kimbled finished with a game-high 17 points for the Muskies while Cody Seiler, 14, and Malik Billingsley, 11, also reached double figures.

Otterbein will begin next week with a Wednesday night home game against John Carroll University. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m. JCU won the first matchup earlier this season in University Heights.
