Pfeil, Norris Propel Cards to Victory at Muskingum

Box Score

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Ross Pfeil and Nate Norris each scored critical goals in the Otterbein men's soccer team's 2-1 double overtime victory at Muskingum on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals, who improve to 7-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, are set to return home for the first time in 10 days to host Wilmington on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

Otterbein dominated the shot margin throughout the entire contest, outshooting the Muskies 35-10 and 13-4 in shots on goal. Neither team managed to post a goal in the opening period, despite the Cards unloading 13 shots.

The first score of the game did not come until the 69th minute when Muskingum's Zach Schmauch netted his first goal of the year on a shot from about 20 yards outside the Cardinal box.

18 minutes passed before Nate Norris answered the call with his seventh goal of the season, tying the Muskies at one goal apiece off a shot from the left side of the Muskie box that was set up nicely by Blake Steenrod. The Cards maintained the tie for the remainder of regulation, forcing overtime.

After a scoreless 10 minutes had passed in the initial overtime period, the Cardinals were poised for their fifth double overtime game so far this season. Ross Pfeil came through in the clutch, scoring his fourth goal of the year on a shot from 25 yards outside the Muskie box that hit the post and bounced into the opposite side of the goal.

Pfeil's goal was the third time in the last five games that Otterbein has either tied the game or taken the lead in the 65th minute or later.

Cardinal goalkeeper Mack Stamper picked up his seventh win in goal, saving three shots in 110 minutes of action. Muskingum goalkeeper Gabe Kral stopped 11 shots in the team's loss.
