Cards Tie Baldwin Wallace on Senior Night

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Baldwin Wallace in a rain-soaked Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) tilt on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals, who recorded their first tie this season, move to 8-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play. Saturday night's game also marked the final home regular-season contest for seniors Morgan Feeney, Megan McCabe, Dana Strimbu, and Jillian Strimbu.

Thirteen minutes remained until halftime when Baldwin Wallace was issued a foul inside its own box, resulting in a penalty kick for Otterbein. Ali Stone stepped to

the line and fired a shot that found the upper right side of the Yellow Jacket net, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. The goal was Stone's first of the season.

The first half shot margin was won by the Cards, 8-3, while the group also earned a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge was kept busy in the opening period, saving three shots.

Alex Elliott tied the contest at 1-1 for the Yellow Jackets in the 63rd minute following a well-placed corner kick by Kadi Tucker. Otterbein managed to unload five shots over the remaining 27 minutes of play, two of which were saved by Tallmadge in the Yellow Jacket box.

Cardinal goalkeeper Dana Strimbu recorded an active second period in goal saving six of seven shots on her own, while Stone came up with the other in a timely team save in the Otterbein box on a through ball from Baldwin Wallace. The Cards concluded regulation with a slim lead in shots at 15-14.

The initial overtime period featured three shots combined, two of which were taken by Jillian Strimbu with one sailing high over the Yellow Jacket goal and the other being blocked by a defender. Neither team managed to find room for a single shot in the second overtime, as the Cards ended the game with a 17-15 advantage in shots.

Both goalkeepers were vital in keeping their opposition from taking the lead, as Strimbu finished the game with eight saves to Tallmadge's six.

Otterbein's final two games of the regular season will be road matchups in the OAC, as the Cards first travel to Marietta on Oct. 27. First kick is slated for 3:30 p.m.
