Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team tallied a goal in each half to shutout Heidelberg, 2-0, on Saturday in the team's first Ohio Athletic Conference matchup of the year.
The Cardinals, who have won three in a row to improve to 5-4 overall, defeated the Student Princes in the OAC opener for the second consecutive season.
Over 21 minutes passed and three shots were recorded for Otterbein, before
Alyssa Spencer gave the Cardinals their first score of the game off a loose ball in the Heidelberg box. The goal was Spencer's first of the year.
Heidelberg's first half threat on offense was limited by the Cardinal defense, as they allowed just one shot to its opposition through 45 minutes of action. The Cards' in turn tallied 10 shots in the opening period, while also owning a 6-0 margin in corner kicks.
Otterbein boosted its lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute, as
Megan McCabe found the back of the net for her second goal of the year, following a corner kick that was deflected off of Heidelberg goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer.
The Cardinals kept their momentum going for the remaining 40 minutes of play, unloading eight shots of which four were saved by Farmer. The Student Princes were held to a mere four shots in the half.
Otterbein led the game in shots, 19-5, topping the home team in shots on goal at 9-2. The Cards also recorded a distinct 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Cardinal goalkeeper
Dana Strimbu played a solid 90 minutes in goal, saving a pair of shots and posting her third shutout in five wins so far this season.
Jillian Strimbu tallied three shots in her first action since an injury against Hope on Sept. 4.
The Cardinals return home Oct. 7 to face John Carroll in an OAC tilt at Memorial Stadium. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
