Box Score 3 DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein University volleyball team ended the recent weekend with a 1-2 record, losing to Alma College Friday afternoon before splitting with Mount St. Joseph and Defiance on Saturday.
The Cardinals, moving to 10-9 overall on the season with the results, will stay on the road for another five matches lasting through Saturday, Oct. 17. Otterbein will next take on John Carroll Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Otterbein fell in three sets to Alma on Friday by line scores of 15-25, 21-25, 23-25. The second set was tied at 7-7 before the Scots embarked on a 6-1 run to find some breathing room. The Cards hung close and trailed just 20-18 down the stretch, but the visitors captured three of the next four points to open a 2-0 lead.
Alma appeared to have the third set taken care of with a 21-16 margin, but the feisty Cardinals caught fire behind the serve of senior
Gracie Staten to win seven-straight points and get the crowd energized. The Scots would weather the storm, responding with four-straight points to promptly end the match.

Morgan Lowenkamp and
Sam Hurdzan all tallied eight kills to help pace the Cardinal offense, with setters
Lauren Blumberg and
Hannah Adams combining for 34 assists. Otterbein committed 10 service errors compared to just two for the opposition.
Alam hit a nice .275 for the contest as a team, getting a match-best 10 kills from Kendall Sells.
Otterbein regrouped with a straight-set win over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at the Defiance Tri-Match, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-19. Lowenkamp tied for a match-high 10 kills while Adams had 14 helpers.
The Cards finished their stay with a tough five-set loss to the host Yellow Jackets, falling 19-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21, 16-18.
Hurdzan and Lowenkamp each blasted 13 kills while White chipped in a solid 10. Adams and Blumberg combined for 47assists up front while
Brenna McNally had a career-high 20 digs.
