The Cardinals, who improve to 6-4-0 overall on the year, begin 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) portion of their schedule for the second straight season.
Polly Sellers got the scoring going early for the Cards, tallying her third goal of the year in the 17th minute following a pass towards the top of the Blue Streak box by
Madison Burchfield.
Less than 10 minutes later, John Carroll was called for a foul in the box, setting up
Jillian Strimbu for a penalty kick.
Strimbu, who earned her first start in the Cardinal midfield since suffering an injury on Sept. 4 against Hope, promptly netted her first goal of the year.
Otterbein held John Carroll in the opening half to just four shots, while the Cards recorded the lone corner kick of the opening period.
Over 15 minutes passed in the second half before
Megan McCabe set Burchfield up for a score of her own on a cross to the far post. The goal was Burchfield's fourth in as many games.
Solid defensive play and ball control for the remaining 38 minutes of play led to the Cardinals picking up their second shutout in a row and fourth of the year.
Cardinal goalkeeper
Dana Strimbu logged nearly 76 minutes in goal and enjoyed a light game, as she was not required to make a save en route to posting her sixth win and fourth shutout.
Andrea Pohlman relived Strimbu for the remaining 14:21 of regulation, stopping four shots.
Both teams evened out in shots at 11 apiece, while Otterbein took an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Otterbein travels to cross-town rival Capital this Saturday for an OAC matchup in Bexley, Ohio. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
