Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University dropped a four-set matchup in non-conference action Thursday on the road, falling by scores of 23-25, 17-25, 27-25, 12-25 to nearby Denison University.
The Cardinals, falling to 10-11 on the season with the defeat, will have the weekend off before resuming play next Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Ohio Northern University, as part of OAC play. Denison, meanwhile, gets itself to an even 8-8 on the fall calendar.
The Big Red narrowly emerged in the opening frame before taking the second a little more comfortably, putting the visiting Cardinals in a 2-0 hole. Otterbein responded to stay alive in the third, prevailing with a close win to extend the match.
Denison eventually put the contest to bed in the next set, slowly pulling away to snap a three-game losing streak.
Morgan Lowenkamp and
Sam Hurdzan combined for 21 kills to lead the Cardinals, with
Kasey White and
Marie Thornton adding eight and seven, respectively.
Setter
Andrea Miller tallied her second-straight double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs. Libero
Gracie Staten had 16 digs in the back.
Rachele Lock and Elena Lein blasted 16 and 15 kills, respectively, to set the tone for Denison, which hit .2-5 for the match as a group.
