WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team tallied a memorable victory Friday evening, turning back Hope College, 14-6, under the lights during the program's first-ever game at Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals, who moved from Clements Field after the stadium underwent a renovation to install turf and a new track this past summer, move to 3-1 on the young season with the triumph.

Otterbein freshman Nicole Coccagno wasted no time giving her team an early advantage, scoring twice in the opening 90 seconds to put the Cardinals out front.

Hope trailed by only two goals after nine minutes of play, but a quick 4-0 run from the Cardinals widened the margin up to 9-3.

Otterbein took a 9-5 lead into intermission, and kept the Flying Dutch at a distanced by keeping them scoreless for the first 17 minutes of the second period. Hope found the back of the net with 12:10 remaining, but that would be its only score of the second half as Otterbein finished the contest with four-consecutive goals.

Tory Blatt, four goals, and Courtney Hilfinger, three, led the way offensively for the Cards while Coccagno and Katy Williams and had two.

Otterbein, playing again without midfielder Annie Kelly, managed to win 11 of 17 draw controls and not allow the Flying Dutch to convert any of their five free-position attempts.

The Otterbein defense was stingy throughout, getting a season-high eight saves on the back end from goalie Ariel Petroval.
