Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein Cardinals got themselves back into the win column Wednesday evening at Memorial Stadium, turning back cross-town Capital University by a score of 11-9 in women's lacrosse action.
The Crusaders started the game strong with a 3-0 spurt, but Otterbein responded nicely by rattling off five goals in a row by the 12:41 mark of the first half. Capital's Kara Hines stopped the Cardinal run with a goal shortly after, but Otterbein took advantage of a Crusader penalty to tally a pair of man-up goals before the break.
Junior Annie Kelly scored twice early in the second half for Otterbein, giving the hosts a 10-6 advantage as the period reached the midway point. Capital scored three of the final four goals in the game, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cardinals would be just a bit better on the evening.
Kelly made her mark all over the field once again, scoring twice, assisting on another two goals and coming up with five ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Courtney Hilfinger and Katy Williams both tallied two goals and one assist for a very balanced Cardinal attack, which received goals from eight different players.
Capital was paced by three goals and one assist from OAC leading-scorer Korri Titus, while Kara Hines and Victoria Husain each netted two scores.
Otterbein forced the difference in the transition game, successfully clearing the ball 14 of 16 times while forcing Capital to just an 11 of 22 output. Cardinal goalie Ariel Petroval had seven big saves while Capital's Maddie Willson had 11 on the opposite end.
The Cards will finish the week on the road, traveling to Baldwin Wallace Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. matchup.
