Women's Lacrosse Falls Short in 10-8 Loss at Baldwin Wallace

Box Score

BEREA, Ohio – The Tan and Cardinal women's lacrosse team fell just short in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) road game Sunday afternoon, coming up on the low end of a 10-8 contest at Baldwin Wallace University.

The Cardinals, now 7-6 on the season and 2-3 within league play, will finish out the regular season next Wednesday against Wilmington College, 7 p.m. Otterbein will need to win that game for a chance at making the four-team OAC postseason tournament.

Baldwin Wallace (5-5, 2-2 OAC) opened a 4-1 lead midway through the first half, but back-to-back goals from Courtney Hilfinger and Tory Blatt brought the Cards back within one.

Hilfinger later scored with less than two minutes to play before halftime, her third goal of the half, to keep the Cardinals within one possession at 6-5 entering the break. BW started the second period strong, rattling off three-unanswered goals within the first five minutes to open a 9-5 cushion.

Otterbein wasn't going anywhere, getting a man-up goal from Blatt just a few minutes later before consecutive scores from Nicole Coccagno and Blatt brought the Tan and Cardinal back to within one again, this time at 9-8 with 11:40 remaining.

The Cards would be unable to find an equalizer, allowing the Yellow Jackets to score at the 8:18 mark and never finding the back of the net down the stretch.

Hilfinger and Blatt combined for seven of Otterbein's goals on the day while Blatt also snagged a game-high seven draw controls. Freshman Megan Kanya corralled five ground balls and Annie Kelly had four caused turnovers.

Otterbein actually out-shot the Jackets 29-18 on the day, but BW goalie Amanda Getto had 12 saves to help her team prevail.
Prior to start time against Wilmington, Blatt, Hilfinger and fellow classmates Rebecca Carter and Alanna Schultz will be recognized as part of Senior Night.
