Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team concluded its regular-season schedule with a dominant win Wednesday evening, sprinting past visiting Wilmington College by a score of 16-1 at a chilly Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals, improving to 8-6 on the season and 3-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with the win, will now await its fate for qualification to the upcoming OAC Tournament. Otterbein will need Baldwin Wallace to beat Capital Saturday afternoon in order to earn a spot. A victory by Capital will keep the Cards out of the postseason due to BW holding a head-to-head tiebreaker over Otterbein.
Otterbein wasted no time getting going against the Quakers, scoring six times in the first 14 minutes of the game and never looking back. Wilmington (3-12, 1-4 OAC) got on the board after its first shot of the game with 52 seconds remaining before the half, but the Cards slowly pulled away throughout the second.
Tory Blatt, Annie Kelly, Katy Williams and Nicole Coccagno all tallied a hat trick for Otterbein, which out-shot the Quakers 41-5 on the game and kept Wilmington at just 12 of 31 on clear attempts. Kelly also had five assists en route to the highest-scoring game of her career, while also forcing a career-high eight turnovers.
Defender Alanna Schultz was all over the field for the Cardinals, leading all players with nine ground balls and six draw controls. She also scored her third goal of the season late in the contest.
Otterbein won 17 of 19 draw controls and picked up nearly twice as many groundballs, at 41-23.
Blatt, Schultz and classmates Courtney Hilfinger and Rebecca Carter were recognized prior to the game in celebration of Senior Night. The foursome is the first four-year class in program history, tallying 33 wins since their arrival.
