Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team saw its 2015 season come to a close Wednesday evening, falling in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament at undefeated and 18th-ranked University of Mount Union.
The Purple Raiders, the OAC regular-season champion and tournament's top seed, turned back the fourth-seeded Cardinals by a score of 11-4 to improve to 17-0 on the season. Otterbein, eliminated in the league semifinals for a second-straight year, ends its spring campaign at 8-6 overall.
Mount Union scores just 44 seconds into the game, but Otterbein eventually drew even on a goal from senior Rebecca Carter at the 19:24 mark. The Cards played tough for the rest of the half, remaining within striking distance as the Raiders managed just four more goals.
The unscathed hosts appeared as if they'd pull away with three early goals after halftime, but Otterbein responded right back with three-straight scores of their own, capped by an unassisted goal from Nicole Coccagno with 14:16 remaining.
Otterbein would be unable to cut into the 8-4 deficit, surrendering three scores down the stretch as Mount Union remained perfect on the year.
Annie Kelly led the Cardinal offense with two goals and one assist while Ariel Petroval made seven saves in the cage. Kelly also had four caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls.
The contest marked the final collegiate game for Carter and fellow seniors Tory Blatt, Courtney Hilfinger and Alanna Schultz, who exit as the first four-year class in program history. They helped the team win 33 games in the span.
Blatt was held scoreless and was unable to attempt a shot, but still departs as Otterbein's all-time leading scorer with 221 points over her four-year run. She tallied 184 goals and 37 assists.
Taylor Pensyl had four goals to lead Mount Union, which also got hat tricks from Marjie McNamara and Susie Kraus.
