Women's Lacrosse Notches First OAC Win at Muskingum

Box Score

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team picked up its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) win of the season Wednesday evening, earning a 9-2 road victory at Muskingum University.

The Cardinals, jumping to 6-4 on the year and 1-1 within the league, will return home and host defending OAC champion Mount Union Saturday at 1 p.m.

Otterbein jumped ahead early on against a short-handed Muskingum squad, which was forced to play the entire game a man-down due to a shortage of available players.

The Cardinals led 3-0 after seven minutes of action, getting goals from Annie Kelly, Rebecca Carter and Katy Williams to start the scoring. Ashley Adams got the Muskies on the board with 6:02 to play before the break, but Otterbein responded with a three-goal run to end the half and take a 7-1 cushion into intermission.

Both sides competed throughout a low-scoring second half, with Tory Blatt and Ali Kula each scoring for the Cardinals before Muskingum added a late goal to finish the scoring.

Otterbein out-shot Muskingum 22-5 and won all but two of the 13 draw controls. Blatt corralled a game-best three draws while Kelly had a career-high 12 ground balls to go along with two goals, two draw controls and a gane-best four caused turnovers.

Otterbein goalie Ariel Petroval had to make just two saves in the Cardinal cage while counterpart Samantha Abrahamsen had five for Muskingum.
