Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's soccer team opened its 2015 campaign against Oberlin on Tuesday evening, falling 2-1 at Memorial Stadium.
Otterbein (0-1 overall) dropped its initial game of the season after going ahead 1-0 in the third minute on a score from junior midfielder
Ross Pfeil. Senior forward
Reid Wolfe tallied the assist after a nice pass through the middle.
The Yeomen then responded in the 20th minute with a goal of their own to even the score. Otterbein trailed Oberlin 9-5 in total shots enter halftime, while holding a 3-1 advantage in shots saved.
In the second half of play, the Yeomen nearly took the lead in the 74th minute after junior forward Sam Weiss tapped a shot off the far post, bouncing the ball off the opposite post and out of goal.
Oberlin then netted the decisive goal two minutes later, as senior forward John Ingham scored his first goal of the season to seal the road victory for the Yeomen.
Pfeil led the Cardinals with four shots while senior forward
Luis Rivas followed with three shots, one of which came on goal. A total of five different players took at least one shot for Otterbein.
The Cardinals will return to action on Sept. 4 in the team's second non-conference match of the season at No. 9 Kenyon. First kick is slated for 5:30 p.m.
