WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team picked up its first home win of the season on Saturday, exploding on offense to score nine goals in a shutout victory over Manchester (Ind.) at Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals, now 2-3 on the year, accomplished a pair of historic feats on Saturday. Erica Meier's initial goal just 12 seconds into the game was the fastest in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) women's soccer history and team history, previously set by Otterbein's Jamie Simms ('02) and Ohio Northern's Laura Smolinski ('01) at 14 seconds.

Otterbein's fourth goal of the game by Hayley Hotchkiss also met a program milestone, as it was the team's 800th goal.

"We love to recognize milestones like that because it makes moments a little more memorable," said head coach Brandon Koons. "I'm so happy about the way it (800th goal) happened in a win, at home, from a freshman (Hayley Hotchkiss) who's been doing so well for us. I'm happy for Hayley and all the girls today. We had a lot of players score their first college goals. The 800th was icing on top."

Meier scored the first two goals of the contest in the initial 14 minutes of play, both assisted by Megan McCabe on a lead pass into the box.

Hotchkiss then added two of her own scores to the Cardinal advantage, the first coming in the 15th minute off a nice touch pass in the box from Meier, followed by a header in the 17th minute off a corner kick by Alex Ancona.

Madison Burchfield tacked on another goal just one minute later, scoring off a shot from about 10 yards out following an assist by Abbey Miltko.

Emma Haussler and Jennie Wenger tallied another pair of first half scores for the Cardinals in the 27th and 34th minute, respectively. Haussler's goal came off a stellar corner kick by Polly Sellers, while Wenger scored off a rebounded ball from the Spartans goalkeeper.

Otterbein entered halftime holding a 16-2 advantage in shots, accompanying a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.

Nearly 25 minutes passed before the Cardinals added to their seven goal lead, when Makenna Allmon struck a ball past the Manchester goalkeeper off a pass into the box by McCabe for her third assist.

Ashley Meade wrapped up the Otterbein scoring run in the 83rd minute on a deflected shot by Meier, rebounding a loose ball and striking it in for the score.

Otterbein's nine goals were the most since Oct. 14, 2003, when Otterbein defeated Heidelberg, 8-0.

Otterbein enjoyed a 20-9 advantage in shots, including a stellar margin of 14 shots on goal. Manchester totaled five of its nine shots on goal.

The win also allowed for Otterbein to field 27 players throughout the contest, including the use of three different goalkeepers.

Dana Strimbu picked up her second win in goal on the season, saving one shot in just under 24 minutes of action. Andrea Pohlman, who saved one shot, led the Cardinals in minutes played in goal with 41:23. Miranda Kuhns led the team with three saves in 24:53 in goal.

The Cardinals return to action at Kenyon on Sept. 23 with a 4:30 p.m. start in Gambier, Ohio.
