Box Score GAMBIER, Ohio - The Otterbein women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 at Kenyon on Wednesday, snapping its two-game win streak.
The Cardinals, who fall to 2-4 overall on the season, led the first half in shots, 5-4, including the frame's lone shot on goal by
Alyssa Spencer in the 17th minute. Spencer led the game in shots with two in the opening period.
Erica Meier tallied Otterbein's initial shot in the sixth minute, but it was blocked by a Kenyon defender. A total of four different Cardinal players recorded a shot in the first period. Kenyon totaled just four shots on goal through the first 45 minutes.
Corner kicks also came at a slim margin in the first half, as Otterbein was awarded the only opportunity. Cardinal goalkeeper
Dana Strimbu was given a light workload in the half, as the Otterbein defense kept the Ladies from tallying any shots on goal.
The second half of play proved to be a much different result, as just under 17 minutes passed before Kenyon notched the game's first goal on a shot that was originally taken by Maggie Smith, which resulted in a bouncing ball in the box that was eventually struck in by Claudia Brown.
Following a pair of shots by
Emma Haussler and
Polly Sellers that sailed wide of the Ladies goal, Smith reversed roles for Kenyon and tacked on the Ladies second goal in the 67th minute off a blast from the 30 yards out.
The Cardinals managed to unload five additional shots down the stretch, including a
Taylor Delara shot in the 86th minute that struck the crossbar. Otterbein finished the game in control of the shot margin at 12-10, while Kenyon registered seven corner kicks in the second half to the Cardinals one.
Strimbu finished with a pair of saves in goal for the Cardinals in the second half of play. The Ladies goalkeeper Alissa Poolpol stopped all four shots on goal that she faced.
Otterbein returns home against Mount St. Joseph this coming Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at Memorial Stadium.
